There are a large number of offical and unofficial resources available to help those who want to obtain the VCP4 certification. VMware themselves publish the exam blueprint, a mock exam, and the questions in the exam are based around the vSphere documentation.
I would always recommend to use a mixture of three core resources when preparing for the VCP4 exam:
1. Study from the official VMware documentation
2. Gain hands-on practice with vSphere
3. Attempt some practice exam questions
The exam blueprint is THE document to base all your study on as it tells you exactly what you get tested on:

There is also an official mock exam, use it is an example of the question/answer format:

Global Knowledge also offer a VCP exam preparation workshop, developed and delivered by me!

So the blueprint will tell you what you need to know, and the official documentation is the best material to study from:
Main documentation
Backups documentation
Update Manager documentation
Converter documentation
There are also a number of unofficial resources which can be very useful too.
Fellow blogger Simon Long has some excellent practice questions and a version of the exam blueprint with hyperlinks taking you directly to study resources:

Forbes Guthrie is well-known for producing a reference card for the VI3 exam, he's produced a new version specifically for the vSphere 4 exam, as well as some study notes taken directly from the official documentation, he calls it vreference:

Another useful study resource is the study notes of Matthijs van den Berg:
